Another heating question

Setting up a new enclosure (showcase cage) and have my UTH on a dimmer and thermostat set at 90 degrees. My 150w CHE is also on a dimmer and will plug it into a t-stat once I move the snake over.

My problem is to maintain an 86 degree temp at ground level (cold side at 75) on the hot side, the bottom of the enclosure on the hot side (where the UTH is) gets up to 100 degrees. Any suggestions?

My first suggestion would be reducing the power of your CHE. Assuming your humidity is good, the CHE really only exists to raise ambient temperatures. You do not need an 86 degree temp at ground level and a hot spot (via UTH) of 90 degrees. An ambient temperature in the high 70s or low 80s (ideally probably around 78-80) throughout the cage and a hot spot of 90-92 is quite good for a ball python. The hot spot really only exists to help the snake thermoregulate after eating. The ambient temperature does not need to be that hot at any point within the cage.

That seemed to help. I have 78 on hot side and 72 on cold side. Is 72 too cold?
