I just a Ryobi one I got from Home Depot. Works fine and seems fairly accurate when compared to my Herpstat.

Question: Can you recommend an affordable temp gun
I bought one off eBay many years ago for about 10 dollars and it still works perfectly . Then I bought a second one ( for downstairs ) a year ago , about 13 dollars off Amazon . They looked almost identical but with different stickers / badges . Reassuringly they both give virtually identical readings - just 0.1 difference on occasion.
I bought a little pro exotics model 9 years ago. Cost something like 20-30 bucks and still works fine. I think I've only had to change the batteries once.
Re: Question: Can you recommend an affordable temp gun
On thing I noticed about my two temp guns . If they're kept in different places so if ones upstairs and the other is downstairs where it's cooler .... they give slightly different readings BUT if they're kept at the same temp they give IDENTICAL readings ...
I just got this one and it works great, but from others posts here it seems that you do not need to spend so much to get a decent one now that the prices have become so competitive. http://www.homedepot.com/p/General-T...T206/100651817
I generally avoid Ryobi anything at home depot, but that's not specific to this product, it's more just a matter of having pretty bad luck with the brand in general.
