    I assume that is your herpstat probe on the bottom? If so, it is possible that the reason you are getting spikes is that when your snake moves over the probe, it blocks the heat and the panel thinks it needs to increase the temperature.

    Ideally your herpstat probe your be in a location where your snake cannot come between it and the RHP. Good locations include suspended just under the RHP surface or dangling along a close side/back wall.
