All heat sources should be regulated. Yes you can use a thermostat. I tried installing some in a rack once........ Don't think I owned it a full 24 hours.

You can put it on a thermostat - it's very much like a heat mat.
If that's your rack then routing the shelves is the only way to get it to fit if using belly heat, what about using it for back or side hest instead? It looks like you'd have more room to fit it so could just stick it on.
I always use mats now, much easier than cable and each shelf can be individually controlled.

Hi I have mats in there now the heat cable was going cheap n thought i mite try it,can I use the cable on sides for royals or does the heat have to come from under the tank?thankyou for your reply!

Proper heat is what is needed.
No they do not require belly heat.
You can use back heat or heat the room.

What wattage is the rope? Should have said on the package or on a band on it near the plug.

I bought it 2nd hand no info on it,I looked online most the heat cables that r 12 metres r 100watt so think 100 watt should b ok,waiting 4 my twin stay to come thru it's 300 w each channel,mayb wait for that!
