Acurite model 00891A

So apparently they discontinued the Acurite model I set my 20g up with. This model number is the replacement and I bought it. I set my new tank up last night, but ever since it has been in, the humidity part just reads HI. I put a different hygrometer in and it is showing humidity of 77%. I noticed on the Acurite that when it hits 90% it goes to HI. If that's true then the humidity is over 90% and has been for about a day. I'm not sure of the accuracy of this model. Does anyone have experience with it?

Is it dangerous to have it that high for so long? I expect a lot of it is from the new substrate. I'm contemplating getting a new humidity meter under the circumstances.

I'm wanting this to be a successful transition, but I'm concerned about the humidity issue. Any ideas or help??

In my experience I see condensation on the glass when the humidity gets in the high 80s to low 90s.
Having said that, high humidity and heat CAN be a combination for bacteria. So when when it gets that high I either bring out the fan and open the doors to the enclosure or I just change the substrate.

I use this Model with built in probe sensor and it seems to be good within a few points. Cost $10-12 on Amazon.
The downside is that the sensor(s) get ruined if the snake messes directly on it.

I have been having a big problem with this model accurite therm/hygrom. Recently had to return two that just didn't work at all straight out of the packaging! Called the company and they quickly sent a replacement that didn't work at all also. I am now awaiting a second replacement. I was also using one in my egg tub that was displaying a readout of 30% humidity and there is frank condensation on the inner wall of the tub that has vermiculite and cypress mulch mixed as the medium. So i think the humidity reading is faulty. The backup hygrometer is reading 99% humidity in the tub. I would call the company bc they seem to stand by the product and are willing to replace it right away. Make sure to use a backup hygrometer just in case.

I use this exact same model I currently have 4 of them and I have not had a single problem iv even tested the temps using my infrared to see if their was a difference and it's about 1 degree off probe and unit itself from what the infrared says which is fine with me as far as humidity goes it's pretty accurate... Im planning on getting another to stick in my incubator (still have a long ways to go before its ready but I like to get things ahead of time haha) but anyways sorry to hear about the problems your having with yours

I use the same models too and mine don't say "HI". Mine peg at 99% which at about that time I might see a little condensation on half a door panel.

It's fine as long as it is only a couple day. I wouldn't want condensation for a week though.

I did have to return 2 to Walmart though as the temp part stuck or at least I thought it did. I found out that the ones that are wireless temp work slower as they have resistor in them. The ones that change temps fast are the wired version that they discontinued. Although i'm sure you find a more expensive wired model if you really need on the fly temp registration.

I've got two of the one you posted. I'm just about done with them. The temp is fairly accurate (used a temp gun as a reference). The humidity part? Well.... Mines reading "LO" and the max is on "HI" yet there's condensation on my empty tub. The other, that's in my ball python's, reads "LO" and max at 71% when there has been condensation (working on getting proper air flow). I use coco husk and reptichip mixture, so there's got to be something than just "LO". Following if any one has a hygrometer/thermometer that's decent and accurate.

Well if you are looking for a top grade humidity gauge, you can order a Herpstat with a humidity probe and use it purely as a humidity gauge. There are some other Acurite ones you can use as well but you are looking at around $50 or so.
