Just a thought but what kind of enclosure are you using? If it's one that opens from the top then it's normal for most snakes to try to escape out the top, and to get a little pissy about being pushed down into it. This is why I prefer front-opening enclosures as the snakes are perfectly happy to climb up into them if you place their heads a few inches below the door.
