Just got herpstat. Setup and have some questions.

Does it take time for the herpstat to reach the desired temperature? Because my temp gun is reading 98 degrees on the hotspot. Also the power output is at 80-100%. Is this ok? It keeps fluctuating.

Just checked temps again. Temps are ranging 100-110. I'm getting really concerned now. Could it be the heat pad? It's pretty beat up.

    Where is the probe mounted?

What temp did you set the tstat?

The percent into is normal. Check your PM.

Where do you have the probe? Is the herpstat set to proportional heating?

The probe is just laying on the heat pad. It's not in the area of the heat pad where it's under the tub though, rather in the "outside". Daytime temp is set to 90.5 degrees. The probe is reading 89.7, my temp gun is reading otherwise (100 degrees). Yes the herpstat is set to proportional.

The probe needs to be outside. Put it between the uth and the bottom of the cage.

I just did that, temp is now 96 (according to probe) and the temp alarm went off (was set at 95)

It will be right soon. Having the probe in the wrong spot had the uth running much to hot.

The probe can be set to one temp but the felt temp on the cage floor may be different. Use the temp gun to find just where the tstat needs to be set to give you the desired hotspot. The numbers will be different. An example is the tstat may be set to 99F but in the cages floor it may only read 95. You lose heat as it works is way through the layers so usually the tstat is set a bit higher than the desired hotshot.

Alright, I was worried this thermostat failed as well. Probe is now reading 88 degrees.

Re: Just got herpstat. Setup and have some questions.

I think the issue was by having on the "outside" as you stated meant that the Herpstat was exposed to the air on one side and the heat pad on the other. So the Herpstat would end up reading a lower temp than what your snakes would feel. Putting it between the cage and UTH is where you want it.
