Aspen or Reptile Bark

I know there are many types of bedding that can be used for BPs. Aspen and Reptile Bark may not be the best but I know they are good and they are the only two I'm interested in using. At the moment I'm using aspen, I've used both in the past...as far as temp and humidity go I never noticed much difference. Just wondering a few other people's views on these two substrates. I'm not looking for suggestions on other substrates, just curious if these were the only two to choose from which would you choose and why? Thank you.

I use reptile bark / orchid bark in 19 of my 20 vivs as part from being fabulous looking substrate the dark colours show off the bright coloured or albino snakes like nothing else around . My MKB is on light coloured beech chips for the same reason .

Reptile bark can be used to adjust the humidity very easily as it can be sprayed regularly or used very dry if required .

I feed in their vivs so I simply lay pieces of card down and drop the d/f mouse / rat on top of the card .

Aspen is cheap, plentiful, and much more renewable than some other substrate choices, which is important to me. I haven't had any problems with maintaining humidity.

Reptile bark / orchid bark tends to be more expensive than the ufgers presumably due to the extra quality
That said I keep the used stuff and wash it in decent sized batches , soak in F10 for week or so , drain and dry out .

Completely re-usable which is another good reason to use it IMHO as it makes it THE cheap option as well

Huh, I would have never thought to reuse that stuff. Do you get any problems with mold or funky smell?

No issues . I store the old stuff in a sealed tub in the shed and clean it in small batches when needed .

I have my bp in a habitat enclosure. I use a mix of cypress mulch and repti-chip to create a natural looking floor. My bp loves it...

I use Aspen. Never have tried Reptile Bark. I think my snake's favorite enclosure substrate is plastic. Because this snake and every snake I've ever had pushes the substrate aside and lays on the plastic bottom of the tub. When I lift the hide he is laying on a big section of just plastic that he has opened up by pushing the substrate away. I think they do this to get closest to the warmth. So I figure put what ever they'll just push it aside anyway.

We have 3 - 4 months that are frozen solid and snowy around here so picking a sunny day doooooesn't exactly work all the time lol

I'm sure you can come up with some kind of idea to dry out a couple of kilos of reptile bark
