    I'll be moving

    Hello all,
I'm new to raising pythons. I bought a cage recently and have created a habitat for him. But we are planning to shift to our new home within few weeks, maybe after Christmas. So how shall we store our python cage while shifting? I don't want to break it while moving. My husband gave a suggestion on self storage. Is it a good idea?? How do you store your python's cage while moving?? Any suggestions?

What kind of cage is it?

I just loaded mine up in my truck with moving blankets. Most of mine are PVC with plexi doors so they are pretty tough.

My glass tanks rode in the cab.

My snakes I put in individual snake bags and then into a couple tubs. I already had my heater in the gonna be snake room so I put the tubs in there and quickly set up the cages. Once they were up to temp all the snakes went back to their homes.

    Re: I'll be moving

I've had to break down and move all my snakes and their stuff multiple times, into multiple states. I would pack up your cage like you would anything else you consider semi-fragile, and keep your snake in a tub for the time being. During the actual move, I packed my snakes up as if they were being shipped in the mail - snake bags, heat packs, and some insulation (as KMG said, with multiple snakes I usually put heat packs in the bottom of a tub, a blanket down, then the snakes in the individual bags). If you're really paranoid, you could buy packing styrofoam for the insulation, especially depending on how cold it is where you're moving from or to.

I once made a move from Indianapolis to Cincinnati on January 3rd, and it was windy and below zero. I had nine snakes at the time, and I made sure they were packed up tight and that the heat was running high in the car the entire time!

Mine is a Exo Terra cage. I'll discuss what you said with my husband. Thank you for your suggestions.

Put an X of tape on each side and move it with the lid on it. That will make it the most secure.
