I don't block one end like that but my girl loves paper towel rolls. She spends a lot of time chilling in hers.

Try switching it up by blocking one end with paper towel. You immediately made a very tight fitting hide and may have to tear into it to get them out. Real SECURITY at its highest. Lol. They really can push the paper towel out of the way when they want but when they smell food trust me ,look out. These rolls do need to be checked frequently bc they get soiled pretty quick.
