    1/ Should he yes when ready (there is isno schedule) but it's not gonna happen any time soon if you keep underfeeding your snake, even out of the egg they eat a prey much larger than a fuzzy (they eat hoppers), at this size your BP can eat an adult mouse.

    2/ The reason the prey is grabbed sideways can be various from having a hard time recognizing a fuzzy as a prey since it is way to small to not applying enough heat on the head (I assume you feed f/t since you use tongs).

    Forward, backward, sideway does not matter so long they eat, it just makes it more difficult eventually they get it right.
