    For what it's worth, I've found that my BP likes to spend the day in one of the completely close-in, tight, dark hides; but in the evenings, he moves into one of his open-ended tubes where he can check out what's going on around him more easily. As long as your snake has choices, and some of those are enclosed and secure, there's no problem with also providing more open ones as well.
