I was legally blind without glasses or contacts and had a fairly high level of astigmatism. I had lasik done in 2005 and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It was just a little over $2000 at the time, but I went to what was one of the best places in the country at the time to have it done because it happened to be fairly close to me. I was completely comfortable with everything and they did not pressure me or rush me to make a decision about it. They did tell me that as I got older I might still require reading glasses and that that is normal because many people's vision changes over time and with age. It has been 10 years and so far, so good. My best advice is to do your research and get it done at the best place you can afford or reasonably travel to. Your eyes are not worth compromising or going somewhere that isn't great just to get a deal.

I've been seriously considering LASIK for quite some time... I have yet to take the plunge though. Annually my insurance allows me to upgrade my glasses free (and I'm hard on my glasses as well so I usually do) or get a free year-long prescription for contacts. With all of that I guess I've just been reluctant to fork over the 2k to get it done, as I don't really mind wearing glasses... It would be nice to not have to worry about keeping them in good condition though, and not having to struggle to see when I don't have them on. It's just little things that bug me, like wanting to go see a 3D movie with my boyfriend and having to put the 3d glasses on top of my regular glasses, or having to weigh out my options of either being blinded by the sun driving or being blinded by not having my special glasses on (lost my pair of perscription sunglasses), things I don't really mind dealing with but are really annoying at the time.
Maybe one day I'll get fed up enough. It just seems like money would be better spent in other places since I can make due with my glasses.

Well, I've officially booked my appointment, went and picked up my eye drops. I go for LASIK on the 30th of this month.

Good luck! The eyes are critical body parts and whatever we feel we need to do to preserve them is money well spent. Remember you only get two.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Yep, and that's so terrifying.
