What type of T8 cage?
What T8 cage would you all recommend for keeping a ball python; the sliding acrylic doors, the sliding glass doors, or the swing doors? What are the pros and cons to each of them?

Re: What type of T8 cage?
I'm a big fan of the glass doors. Won't scratch, won't discolor, and won't sag over time. Yes, they're heavier but I like them a lot. Slide very smooth in the tracks too. If you go with sliding doors get some stick on mirror/window pulls so you don't get finger prints all over them sliding them open. Mostly a cosmetic issue but also makes them easier to slide imo

Re: What type of T8 cage?
I have sliding glass too on mine. I've heard he same cons for acrylic that jmcrook mentioned. For swing door, haven't used them but I can see them being advantageous for cleaning. On the other hand, I've also heard of folks with hungry snakes not liking swing doors because they couldn't contain the snake as easily. With sliding doors, my biggest complaint is my substrate constantly coming out and getting in the rails and preventing my doors from closing completely so I can lock them; so I always have to clean out the rails. But if you use newspaper, this shouldn't be an issue; I use coco husk.

Re: What type of T8 cage?
I got the sliding glass in my T10 that I ordered yesterday. For the same reasons mentioned above.

I use sliding glass door for all my T10s too. Mostly just because they make good shields for hungry boas and a retic lol but they are nice for cleaning as you can easily remove them to clean them and have an unobstructed shot at the cage too.

I like glass too.
I have both glass and plexi but like the glass much more. I can clean it without worrying about scratching it and they are easy to take out and wash in a sink.
The plexi doors don't come off and you have to be careful not to scratch them. Even paper towels can scratch them.
Both of the cages I have on order are coming with glass doors.

Definitely sliding doors. Material up to you. I use the acrylic. I keep BP's in racks, but the carpets are in AP. My first AP had the swing doors and I quickly learned this was a great opportunity for the snakes to come bursting out at feeding time. Sometimes they got the rat and sometimes they got me.

How secure are the sliding doors in the tracks? Would a determined snake have any chance at sliding them opened, or pushing them out of the tracks?

To take the glass out you have to lift the pane up to get it to clear the bottom track. Once its clear you tilt the pane toward you and then pull it down and it comes out.
My GTP has climbed and pressed all over the glass and I have never had an issue.
However on my plexi doors that swing down if you don't the tab at each corner the snake can press the plexi and bend it pretty easy.
I think the glass is more secure. If you are worried about it you can add a lock but a lock is really meant to keep others out, not the snake in.
