Without locality data it is almost impossible to know what that is.

Sadly "Colombian" they spelled it wrong, is lumped in with everything now usually known as the "common boa" which can be mixed and matched with anything. The colors and pattern are often bland and faded.

Most boas from Colombia are BCI however there are BCC from that country. They are rare, but they exists.

My Colombian is a pure locality boa from Barranquilla. The area is a natural intergrade area where BCC and BCI can come together.

My animal is from Gus Rentfro. Vin Russo discusses the line I have and states they exhibit characteristics of both BCC and BCI.

The scale counts are very different from BCI.

Spending a few extra $$ and going with a quality breeder has pluses.

That's a Colombian boa.





The boa you showed pictured does have some rather prominent eye lashes which is a trait a lot of BCC have, but that may only mean the waters are clouded with many possible mixes throughout it's makeup.

There are a lot of honest, quality boa constrictor breeders out there that take pride in their breedings and keep detailed locality data.

There is nothing wrong with that boa you showed, but the animal is more than likely a mix/mutt. That's OK! My carpet python is a mutt. I love her.


Legacy Reptiles has the very line of Colombians that I showed you here. I actually bought mine from them in 2013.

The price is quite reasonable for such pretty animals.

Mutts are awesome!! Rosey is my mutt and I would trust her with any person or kid. I honestly don't think you could get her to bite you unless you really hurt her or you rubbed rabbit or rat all over you lol.

But anyways erebus45, check out those people I told you about. You can also check out some of the bigger "names" but along with those names is going to come a higher price. Doesn't mean the snake is better, just you are kind of paying for the breeders name too.

I think he was more concerned with the source for the boa as in he doesn't want to get ripped off. The people I listed are all trustworthy guys and gal who will sell you what they list.

I know those names are trustworthy because I've listed all of them here before

His source is fine if he is buying that particular boa for $60. That is a low price and if he's not promised anything that is special and likes the animal why not?

That said the "source" needs a bit of a brush up on some fairly elementary knowledge about boa constrictors.

p.s. I am having a heck of a time finding a baby Columbian boa for sale from a trusted breeder I have been looking for days and all I can find is those big pet industries that I don't think I can trust any help on this would be much appreciated as well... thank you

Also keep in mind, it's currently breeding season for boas (Oct-Feb) so babies will becoming available around Apr-July time. Not a lot of young babies out right now.
There are many wonderful hobby breeders out there. I know quite a few in my area (CA) and a few mentioned already in this thread are good (like Diem). Have you tried going through your local herp society for local contacts? Quite a few hobby breeders have litters but don't have websites set up. Good luck! Boas are great.

Just want to start off saying thanks to everybody that has helped along this journey... This community it amazing so thank you everybody.....with that being said can I get a little bit of info on a hypo motley? Like how big will they get are they bcc or bci ect thank you

Hypo Motley is a BCI 2 gene morph. They will get about the same size as a normal Colombian. They are both BCI. If you get one, make sure its got the sweet long stripy tail. I love the tails on motleys.
