Frozen pack of rats stuck together

Should I just have separated them when I got them?

I was buying them from a petstore at first now (and they were wrapped individually) I'm now buying from a guy at an expo. They're all stuck together.

If I thaw and refreeze, will they go bad?

They must have thawed a bit which made them wet while you were coming home from the expo. Then when you put them in your freezer the moisture froze again and are making them stick together.

If you leave them out for a few minutes and move them around the will come apart. You should be able to then put them back in the freezer without any issue.

Did you not take a cooler to the expo to transport them home?

This may or may not be the most popular method- but when I have a chunk of rats all stuck together, I pick up the whole block and slam them again a hard object a few times... works every time LOL.

    Got ya.

Yea, they just thawed a bit coming home. No biggie. Just break them apart and you'll be fine. Break them as needed and next time take a cooler to the expo. LOL!

I've actually seen people package rats in groups all packed together. Not good, better to freeze individually and then put them together and shrink wrap when they are already frozen. I don't like to thaw and freeze again. I'm guessing they target people with large collections.

I have ordered feeders in bulk for a good while now. I usually make two purchases a year in sizes from small rats to XXL rats. They have always come several to a bag and I have never had any issue with them that way.

As long as the rats are not wet when the are initially frozen they will not stick together. Packing them as done in the pic you added helps save space and keep the packages flat as they are positioned and then frozen vs. freezing them and then trying to place them in a bag in a orderly manner. You'd have legs and tails going everywhere trying to use the second method.

I just take out what I need from the bags and leave the rest. Only the rats being fed to the snakes are thawed.

    I don't see your issue.

That photo doesn't mean they're individually frozen, because they're not. That's either a package from Big Cheese Rodents or Perfect Prey as they're the only two companies that vacuum seal packages on trays rat pups+ and small adult mice+. Pinkies, Fuzzies and Hoppers are still vacuum sealed, just not using a tray to make them neat and easier to store.

I get my rodents from Rodent Pro. They are individually frozen, then I vacuum seal them. They are not flat but they store OK and they come apart much better.
