    They're not too deep for ball pythons. Balls do climb some if given the opportunity, and they will make use of upper shelves, multiple levels, etc, if available, which helps increase the effective floor space a bit. The height doesn't do much if its just left totally empty, but still doesn't hurt anything. Just because they can survive with six inches of head room doesn't mean they don't benefit g from more.
