Now because he prescribed medications does not mean you have to get them all of them, I too find some unnecessary, however you do need the anti-biotics but that does not mean you have to get them from your vet all you have to do is tell them to write the prescription and order from a online Pet Pharmacy (they will verify with your vet that you are buying what is prescribed)
That makes me feel a lot better. I asked and he told me that I would need all of that so it makes me feel more comfortable knowing that a lot of that stuff isn't necessary. I have found another vet and will probably be making an appointment with them since they are more well-known as an exotic vet in my area. I appreciate all of your help.

. Most times vets will treat prophylactically with a broad spectrum antibiotic until the smear and culture results come back from the lab. Baytril is a different medication than Amakacin thus you would be getting the wrong medication by only purchasing Baytril. It seems like he ordered injectable vitamins for the snake which act more quickly and are more targeted. The Nekton-Rep is a powder supplement. The injectable vitamin therapies would certainly be more pricy than any powder or liquid application. I would definitely try to go with the pet insurances. You can shop around for a more affordable one. Good luck once again.

Where would I look to find Amikacin? I've searched online pet pharmacies but none of them supply this.

Kind of beating a dead horse here but don't play vet. I mean vets aren't cheap but they are worth their weight in gold. Good ones at least. Ask your local herp club what vet they use/recommend. You should be able to find a good one. I just had to take Allison my JCP into my vet for an emergency as she somehow ingested Provent-A-Mite and was not doing good. The vet fit her in on her lunch as she was booked for the whole day but it was an emergency. Luckily Allison pulled through and within a day, she was eating her mice again and took a huge poop. The vet was able to flush the toxin from her system, thank god. It was far from cheap but cant really put a price on our "kids"

Amakacin is one of the newer aminoglyosides and is a prescription antibiotic. You honestly need to look to your exotic vet for the prescription. For the vet to prescribe Amakacin means you are dealing with a serious bacterial/ respiratory infection. Trust me, i have a background in veterinary medicine and it's really not worth it to skimp and substitute on meds. Reptiles get ill slowly and consequently heal slowly. They really require the proper medications and veterinary assistance from time to time. Any luck with the pet insurances? Most of them only require a minimum monthly payback option.

Yes I know. I am getting a perscription written from my vet but I would like to find the actual medicine elsewhere because it is such a high price with my vet I want to try and find it at a cheaper more affordable price.

Wait, your vet is writing you a prescription for an antibiotic when he hasn't even seen the snake or done a culture? Sounds like those shady docs who used to write people prescriptions for pain killers online lol. Maybe its just your area but every time I've had to go to the vet, the medicine was usually the cheapest part. The visit, cultures and blood work were the expensive parts lol.

. The vet has the prerogative to rewrite the prescription in its generic form to make it more affordable to you. You need to ask him to do that and explain that costs are problematic for you. The pet health insurances cover these.
