The exact reason why pitbulls are my favorite breed and I own 5 of them

When I decided to get another pet, I already had 11 already, but 4 are outside/farm animals and I have to make my dogs come in at night lol. I wanted something aesthetically pleasing, easy to take care of and wouldn't need/want my attention 24/7, snakes were perfect. When I looked up beginner snakes, corn snakes, ball pythons, and sometimes red tail boas popped up. The combination of long and skinny..corns feel like worms to me, and I'm not ready for boas yet. Sooo..I got a ball python and I love herr<33 Hoping I can get more in the near future.

I like ease of maintenance too. Also have outdoor livestock that do require dedicated daily time, so, the indoor pets are chosen with "bang for the buck" and simplicity in mind. Snakes fit that - esp. the smaller species. I think rats are really underrated as pets. Cheep to buy and feed, easy to maintain, esp. if you spend some money up-front on a Critter Nation for the housing. They keep each other entertained, but are happy to come out for some daily shoulder time with me.

I am also a member on a parrot forum. I really wanted a small parrot, but some of these birds drive their owners insane. They can be very, very expensive and high-maintenance, and demanding. I decided on two budgies. Couldn't be happier with these "beginner" birds.

For me, I really really love the feeling of having earned the trust of this alien creature. My roommate and I were talking about her interest in my snake and if she'd ever want to get one of her own and she said something to me about how Yigg acts differently with me than with anyone else. I felt so warm and fuzzy!

Yigg is so unlike any of my other pets, even my geckos, that knowing that I'm doing right by him and that I've earned a measure of his trust is super satisfying to me.

I have loved snakes since I was little (thanks to Kaa from The Jungle Book). I think there will always be something exotic about snakes to me. They are such unique animals and watching the way that they move is so calming. The fact that they are relatively low maintenance pets is a bonus.

Yes, well said. I'm a firm believer that the animals learn the hand that feeds them. Our smell... I let my 5 year old hold he snakes sometimes and they just freeze up in his hands. Then He hands them back to me and they continue to start crawling all over my arm and exploring lol.

Snakes are just cool. 'Nuff said

Though recently I'm loving them even more because (along with our dog) my wife's snake has helped tremendously in dealing with her depression

I have loved snakes ever since my Grandpa would read the Little Book of Snakes to me at 4 years old. It emphasized how beautiful they were. I’ve liked them ever since.

Re: Why do YOU love snakes??

I loved them since I was a child. My Dad would catch snakes and bring them home for me before I was in kindergarten. I just love the diversity that exists within one species of animal. They are ground dwellers, tree dwellers, subterranean dwellers, and even aquatic. I can't think of another animal that can stake this claim with the possible exception of insects, and then it requires metamorphosis. They kill by envenomation, constriction, or just simple ingestion. They are egg laying and live bearing. They come in small, medium, large, and Holy Cow that's huge. They have defensive tactics that range from aggressive, such as striking, spitting venom, or puffery, to passive such as mimicry, curling up in a ball, or even playing dead. Last is the variety of color which pretty much covers everything on the spectrum.

I wish everyone could see them through my eyes and truly appreciate how amazing snakes are.

I think I like the fact that snakes are like living, natural art. I love their colors and appearances. I like their personalities, too.
