Re: Awkward...
Yeah..no..ummm YOU should not be popping any snake.. U havent the experience to do so. Wouldnt you feel like crud if you or your inexperienced friend hurt that snake?
Seriously...STOP this crud already! Quit worrying about things like the snakes sex, I doubt it really matters if you arent planning on ever breeding. If you must kno... Do the sensible thing and have a vet that is qualified sex that snake without hurting it.
SMH... Wow.

Re: Awkward...
Wow, okay. I can agree that attempting to do so at this point in time was a bad idea, but I don't think there's anything wrong with learning to pop a snake from what I assume was a Youtube video. That's how I learned to pop, and I did so on many hatchlings successfully. I never hurt any.

Btw I got it confirmed. she's officially a female.
So definitely sticking with the name "Cookie" now.
So now I got to start looking up on ovulation and things of that nature.
Do they eat any differently during then? When does that start? Those kind of questions.

Re: Awkward...
Pretty sure ovulation only occurs when the snake has been paired up. It's literally no different than owning a male snake.

Woaaaah I don't mind you calling me inexperienced but don't you dare claim to know my friend Jaci and assume she is inexperienced. You don't know her. That was very rude of you.

Why do you need to look up ovulation? You got one BP that's a youngin right? You really should just enjoy the snake as it is for a long time. Breeding is not something you just dive into. You need to be prepared with housing, heating, feeding, just to mention the basics. if you are having problems with just one snake, imagine what it will be like dealing with 7 little hatchlings who you have to get eating.
Lol I haven't even read the other threads but if you were prying your snakes mouth open to look for RI and now trying to pop it to sex it and having friends try and pop it, I do feel sorry for that poor snake. You do know you can hurt them if you try and pop them the wrong way. Like I said, you need to just enjoy the snake as it is, boy or girl or whatever and put away a "nest egg" of money for if you have to take that snake to the vet because I can tell you right now, reptile vets are not cheap. I had to take Harley to the vet for light RI and after all was said and done with the medicine, it cost me $300 in vet bills.
Oh and if you aren't familiar with how to do it, I would take it to a reptile vet who is experienced with it and they can show you. Sure you have to pay but that is part of owning a pet. Buying the pet is really the cheap part. Its the housing, heating and especially feeding that gets expensive. Heck for the list of gals and my 1 little man in my sig, they run me over $100 a month in just food....I really just need to buy a mini chest freezer and order online lol.

Awkward...
@all future posters in regards to my friend.
She was the one who picked up Cookie and took care of HER for a bit while I got the roommate situation re-evaluated. She has MANY reptiles currently, and has many in the past.
A reticulated python (sold)
3 bearded dragons (first one passed away from old age, the other two were purchased because she couldn't live without bearded dragons)
3-4 corn snakes (I can't remember. All sold)
1 ball python of her own (either a blue eyed or black eyed Lucy, I can't tell the difference to be honest)
And a couple other snakes, I don't know. Maybe milksnakes? Or baby garters? ( am not familiar with either of these species. They have rings, though. Maybe corns?)
And a weird Green Iquana she walks on a leash for some reason, but I couldn't tell you why. His "mate" is a stuffed toy.... he's named Michael Meyers... (did I spell that right?)
Anyhoo, she's awesome.
That all being said, she said it could go both ways at the time since the last time she sexed a snake was her Retic when she was selling.
Not going to argue with anything else, but please don't assume that just because she said it could still be both ways that she is inexperienced. She was simply recommending that I go to someone who is comfortable and educated on how to poke them with the proper tool.
(Which I went and did.)

Doesn't matter how many reptiles you own, you will never know everything about every reptile. I mean I own 6 snakes and 1 beardie now. In the past when I was in my early 20s, I owned Nile Monitors, Savannah monitors, green iguanas as well as lots of amphibians. And you know what, I still don't know how the heck to pop a snake to check its sex. I don't even know how to probe either lol. If I REALLY need to know, I make an appointment with my herp vet and let her do it. "Owning" reptiles doesn't necessarily mean you know what you are doing lol. But if you got it all squared away, good job. now just let that poor little girl be or you are going to stress her out so bad, she might quit eating and then you will have real problems.

From here on in, I will not be asking any of you advice unless it's in PMs with people I trust.
That being all said, don't expect updates on Wheatley. If you want to know, you can ask in PMs how he's doing, but I'm not going to continue creating threads that become a hostile environment because my personality clashes severely with a couple of individuals who have a lot of pull and say on this forum.
I see why this thread is titled 'awkward'

I know
I just don't want people calling her inexperienced is all. She's no expert but she does have a good deal of knowledge in the Herp field. Plus I owe her for taking care of Cookie.
As far as Cookie, she's safe in her habitat and apparently pretty laid back and at ease. To be on the safe side though, I'm going to hold off from switching her to rats until things are settled down.
(I was told to up the size of her food.)
ALSO! Since I was at the vet, I had them do an RI culture (yay payday) and I'll be hearing back if it's confirmed or not, but they don't think she has it.
Though, this all came from an animal hospital vet, and not a dedicated Herp vet (the closest one listed online seems to be one in Ohio...? And then another all the way in Tennessee.... I live in the smack dab of Kentucky, so if anyone knows better on this please give me details)
