    Re: Peanut Butter?

I'm a science teacher, who practices science by research, dialogue, inquiry before anything. Hence, that is why I consulted the forum before I did anything. As long time herpetologists, I know that you all can tell me more than what the internet simply through your experience.

There is no resource on the internet that tells me that snakes eat peanut butter, nor were there resources that tell me that it is harmful to them.

Please do not question my ability to do my job just because I asked a question. It is a legit one... and if it is the culture of this forum to judge and ridicule people who asks for help, let me know. I will let the community leaders know that this forum is not the "friendliest" it promises to be on its logo, and I will search for another group to nurture my growing herpetology enthusiasm.

I still would like to see the videos you referenced if you don't mind. Honestly, I don't think they exist and spent a considerable time searching. Maybe you just misunderstood videos labeled "feeding butter ball pythons" with "feeding ball pythons peanut butter"...big difference, but I see how a mix up could occur.

If you have a question, then you should ask. However, you claimed that you saw people feeding ball pythons peanut butter:

When people start searching for these videos and find nothing, it's perfectly valid to assume you are trolling and not who you say you are.

This is the Internet. Everyone is allowed on. The forum moderators do their best to curb any malicious attacks. But again, based on the information provided, the perception was that this was not a valid question.

I think the initial question has been addressed. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more.

To be honest, I just wanted to see the videos of people putting peanut butter on a plate or something and the BP just slithering around in it, playing in it for whatever reason then curling up into a pile of his own and looking like the original pile of peanut butter....

The actual lack of promised video was a little disappointing....

I don't think it would be actually harmful, I just don't think a snake would have interest in it. Especially one that is infamous for their picky appetites.

You're not going to try it with Wheatley, right? I'm just messing with you

But if you do, post the pics

I AM, however, very intrigued what initially started the thought train of snakes eating peanut butter.

There is nothing wrong with coming up with the idea yourself, and then asking about it. That doesn't make you a troll. Technically, neither does trying to make up information so you don't have to own up to being the origin of the thought.

But on a forum online, any forum online, any stretch of truth shakes other's trust in you that you are legitimate. Because sometimes that's the only real way to tell a troll who's making things up from a legitimate person.

That all being said, and correct me if I'm wrong, I think the thought came to you, and you asked simply out of curiosity. But in your own defense, you didn't want to own up to being the creator of the thought in fear of people calling you stupid.

If this is the case, the difference between this forum and any other are the mods. Even if you have what you might be afraid will be considered a "stupid" question (there are no stupid questions, to be honest), if someone calls you stupid for it, the majority will actually stick up for you.

    Including the mods.

That's what makes this forum the friendliest.

If I can be sure 100% that it won't hurt him at all, I might actually seriously consider this...

    for science, of course...
If Wheatley were female, I would have named him "Chell...."

    Cool Ha!

The origin of the thought of BPs eating peanut butter came from colleagues at work who wanted to make small talk when they saw my animals. I voiced my doubts at first, but some kids showed me videos or what they said were youtube videos of snakes or what looked like pythons/snakes being offered (tongue out to) peanut butter. I did not follow up on this so called youtube video since I didn't take it seriously (teenagers do take a lot of silly videos, and one so-called BP was not representative of all) - - so this explains all your negative searches! The kids might just be showing me something stored on their own phones or from a storage online. Who knows!

Still warily, I did my search. Yeah, Peanut Butter and BP morphs. I did find some blog posts about snakes being trapped in a mice trap with peanut butter, and some forum on reptizone where a person posted about someone who claimed to make PB and J's into mouse shapes and feeds it their BPs (the original post I think was about snake cannabalism, which I think was misinterpreted) - was it an alternative to rats and mice because she/he was squeamish of rats and mice? Who knows, but heck, I would be curious to know if Wheatley would be interested! According to this person, her BP likes strawberry jam?

I appreciate the explanation of bp.net behavior (you guys take your youtube videos seriously!). I am a legit individual, with a real job that's pretty challenging and rewarding (hence I plan on treating myself to owning a morph one day - still researching!), so, no, "mom of banana chip" is NOT a troll!

    Re: Peanut Butter?

    Wonderful timing.

I just found a video of a BP eating watermelon

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ljSBNNC2wMw

The only hesitancy I have on this is the lack of information of what can be harmful (like dogs with chocolate or onions) and what isn't.

An experiment I might not mind doing in an animal research lab, but not one I'd like to try out on my pet.
