Feeder Rabbits for the big snakes?

    Question:
I breed my own mice & rats for my own snakes plus some of my buddies buy what I dont need if they have a stubborn baby who wont eat FT, and one guy in particular who buys my biggest rats because he otherwise has to drive about an hour away for live (they sell closer, maybe he doesnt trust those ppl, idk). Anyway, he breeds retics and knows many others who have or breed big snakes that eat rabbits and they have to drive quite the distance to buy them. I've considered breeding rabbits as well but I cannot find any info on what breed inparticular they raise for feeders. Does it matter? I see many breeds, some are better meat rabbits than others for humans but I cannot find any specific 'feeder' rabbit, is there such a thing?

If you're on Facebook join and read through the "Backyard Meat Rabbits" group. Yes there are rabbit breeds that are better as feeders than others.

Also if you keep other snakes they may eat rabbit too. My kings and milk snakes go nuts for the stillborn kits, and I start alternating my boas between rats and rabbits as soon as they are big enough to take a rabbit fuzzy, which is the same size as a large-ish small rat or a small-ish medium rat.

All rabbits can be food. Biggest Flemish Giants have a higher bone to meat ratio, and thus aren't considered cost effective for producers. Common meat breeds are California Fryer, New Zealand White, Florida White, Champagne D'argent. Meat breeds tend to be heavy set, and easy-going. I think they make better pets too. The smaller breeds are more skittish and high energy, in my experience.

Thank you both! I heard about that Facebook page awhile ago and completely forgot about them, thanks for the reminder!
