    New rescue!

A lot of people my husband works with knows we keep reptiles and one of them asked me if I could take in a boa. I haven't had boas since I got sick and even though I am better now I haven't got one because my husband was against me getting back into boas because of their size anyway I agreed to take in the boa atleast until I could find an appropriate home but he is now here to stay! He is a sweetheart but hasn't had the best of care. They said he hasn't eaten in the 3 weeks they had him and he was covered in mites (which they didn't know about) he also had pieces of stuck shed all over. He is now in quarantine and has provent a mite in his cage and had a soak which I counted at least 50 dead mites in the water afterwards . I have named him Kyo and I am going to try a small hopper mouse later today to see if he'll eat.

Here's Kyo (I think he's a hypo? but not sure):

    Ball Pythons:
    1.0 Cinnamon Pewter (Deadshot)
    0.1 Normal (Katana)
0.1 Vanilla Butter Banana Spider (Enchantress)
    1.0 Ivory (Orochimaru)
    1.0 Banana (Sunset)
    1.0 Pied (Soul)
    0.1 Lemonblast (Velvet Rose)
    0.1 Black Widow (Maka)

    Other Critters:
1.0 Irian Jaya Carpet Python (Itachi)
    1.0 Columbian boa (Kyo)
0.2 Leopard Tortoise (Aurora and Belle)
    1.0 Boxer/Shepard (Oliver)
    0.1 Corgi/Poodle (Jasmine)

Beautiful! So many times I see rescues are usually older/bigger snakes, glad to see you getting back into it with a smaller one that you can watch grow!

NICE! He will probably eat like a champ once you hydrate him and get rid of the mites. Sure is a good looking snake!

Yeah I was totally surprised I was expecting a full grown boa and when I went to get him and they gave me this little guy I was like um ok not what I was expecting but will definitely take him! Apparently he was an impulse buy and the only snake they had ever got and wasn't what they thought it would be like. They are now thinking of getting a bearded dragon so I invited them to come handle mine and clean up after his poop before they get one so this doesn't happen to another reptile!

Good idea. Also let them know that they need to treat all of their equipment for mites before bringing in any other reptiles, as a female mite can survive for a year without eating.

Yeah I let them know they needed to treat but they think the mites came from me so I don't know if they will follow my advice. I even explained to them that when I got home I put him in a small bowl of warm water since he was dehydrated for him to drink and soak while I changed the tub (had a tub set up for an adult since I didn't know it was a baby they were rehoming) and after his new cage was set up I took him out of the water to discover atleast 50 dead mites. They said they never saw a bug crawling on him so he must have got them on the way home, since they refuse to listen that they were up inside his scales and that's probably why they didn't see them I give up trying to help someone that doesn't want to listen.
