Reptile Rally & Reptile Costume Contest

    Hello Guys,

I was on Facebook that other day and I saw an ad for a Petco reptile event this Sat. They are having an reptile costume contest, a 50% off sale on reptiles and some "snake" habitats for sale. I am thinking of going with my Fiance and taking my two BP's there and hopefully provide information to anyone that is curious about purchasing a BP and inform them of the proper husbandry. Not going there to discourage the sale of BP's but to show off my snakes and educate. I know this will cause stress to by BP's and with reptiles they are showing I'm a bit afraid of passing mites or other things to my BP's. In my shoes, would you guys do it? I know there is a lot of mistrust and possibly hatred towards big box stores but it might help a BP or two. I would like to take my BP's as I can be taken more seriously when I show up with nice and healthy animals but I can just as easily go without them but I feel I wont be taken as seriously. Thanks for any input.

Personally? No. I can see what you mean about helping others but putting my own snakes at risk of any of the nasties that can come into a busy box store seems like a bit too much of a risk to me.

Thanks, I think I might just pass on this. I love my snakes too much to put them at risk.

Sounds like they're trying to do something nice, and may be able to find some good deals but if I was in your shoes I wouldn't.

I wouldn't do it either. Not worth the stress or risks to your animals.

Just go lurk around the snakes and when people come over there eavesdrop on the client / employee conversation . Then when the employee goes away pull aside and correct everything she/he left out. You'll help more than 1 or 2 I bet. But I'd agree, with my little knowledge leave em home.

I am curious to see if anyone brings their beloved reptiles to this event for exactly that reason. Most reptile people know there's a certain likelihood for diseases to be passed with something like this... Still, I'd love to see the little cuties all dressed up for Halloween!

If it were me, I'd be tempted but probably ultimately say no... The thing that gets me is that it's hosted inside the store with animals that are likely sick and imported.

You'd be amazed at the people who don't really think like that.
