Vertical space?
I'm looking to eventually get a larger glass enclosure in the future but I'm not sure what to get. I like the exo terra line in the 36"w18d. My question is will a bp utilize vertical space or would I be waisting my money going with a taller enclosure?

Re: Vertical space?
They are ground dwellers not arboreal snakes.

Assuming you mean you're adding some heightened horizontal branches within the space, he might utilize it when he's out exploring/hunting at night.
The 36 x 18 x 18 size is fine imo.

Prob not. They don't need it. That's not to say they wont climb, but they aren't arboreal snakes by nature. Just my opinion.

If you give them stuff to climb, they'll probably use it (although you might not see it if they do it at night). IMO if you have the space, money, and ability to heat an enclosure with more than a foot of headroom, you might as well give the snake the option. Yes, they can also do just fine without it and it obviously isn't a substitute for appropriate temperatures and humidity hides. So they don't *need* it in the basic sense, but if you can provide it, It's good exercise and enrichment.
It might also take awhile before the snake utilizes any climbing stuff, especially if it has never had it before; it takes awhile for some snakes to figure out that it can climbed, is safe, etc, plus it takes time to develop the muscles and coordination.
But there are accounts of wild bp's climbing regularly, especially males; and the forum is also full of pics of bp's climbing fairly high up furniture, taking prey from perches, etc.
