Mites between the scales
For those of you who have seen my thread progressions, I think I have narowed down the culprit. I think it was my problem feeder who did the weird poop. He has always had these little black flecks that I thought was scale coloration. After I looked closer, it's not his scales, or at least not all of them. They are mites under his scales making them look dark. The exotics vet is not open today, so until I can bring him there, is there anything I can do to get them out? I don't think the reptile spray is working on the ones buried under there, and a water soak seems to have eliminated very few of them.
Thank you all for the help you've given me.

Re: Mites between the scales
I honestly wouldn't use any type of oil on the snake at all as that could lead to the scales becoming soft and falling off. I have heard of placing a snake in a tub of tepid of water with just a drop of Dawn dish soap. The soap breaks the water tension and will help drown some of the mites. Make sure the water is not to hot, I would definitely use a thermometer to test the temperature before placing the snake in it.

Re: Mites between the scales
I didn't know this at the time and only found this out today but tbf I used it twice a day for a week and my boy is fine so maybe once wouldn't hurt just to get the majority off him. I only used a cap full as well so not alot at all in a sink and my bathroom sink is fairly large

This does work. Only a little soap is needed, your snake should not look like it is taking a bubble bath.
