Itachi has a new cage

So my in-laws decided to upgrade to a bigger salt water tank and gave us their 55 gallon tank so I have turned it into a cage for Itachi until I can afford his AP cage! He seems a lot happier in it than in his exo terra 20 gallon! Excuse the cinder blocks underneath, I use a wheelchair to get around so it had to be placed at my height.

Let me assist you with a couple of really quick fixes. These ideas will help your snake feel a bit more secure and give you a very nice display for a glass enclosure.

I recently broke this tank back out to quarantine my new retic, but it used to house a royal.


The back has an easy to install, background picture these are available in reptile shops and aquarium stores. I bought some extra for the sides and insulated the bottom, back and sides of the cage. The only viewing window is the front and that helps the snake feel secure.

Plus, it looks nice and you won't see cords and other things behind or to the sides of your tank. These are very inexpensive things you can add.


Now, I'd add a few more of those branch systems into the cage. Your snake will use them, and you will love watching the activity!

Just continue to add things here and there and you'll be very happy.

I actually just bought those same spring loaded perches that you have in the cage.

You CAN make these work, and carpets are certainly hardy enough to deal with glass tank environments.

Nice set up and nice snake. Like Gio said, cover the back and sides. I didn't go extravagant as Gio, I just use white paper towels on my glass tanks. You can also use black craft paper. As for perches, I just pus PVC piping. Its cheap as dirt and you can make any kind of configuration you want. I don't pvc cement it as I like to be able to break it down and clean the pieces when needed. Otherwise nice looking. My jungle never comes to floor or uses hides. She just sits coiled on her perches like a GTP lol. I swear if she was green, she could pass as a GTP easily. I generally keep my snake cages pretty plain as I like it easily cleanable and most of my snakes get outdoor time a lot anyways, so the caging is really just for when I'm not around. Heck when i'm home, I usually open all the doors of my AP cages and all the snakes just sit with their faces perched on the litter dams just relaxing for hours like that except my BP who I don't know but she loves to explore and I have to keep an eye on her or she climbs down to the table leg and uses that to get on the floor and explore around lol.

Oh also forgot to mention, with the pvc gym and perches, you can get fancy with them by scorching them with a propane torch outside and make them look like branches. Google pvc perches for green tree pythons or look on youtube. There are guys that show how they did it. You can also check green tree python sites as a lot of people use them.

You must be referring to the first picture. I use white paper towels in my quarantine cages. The 2016 version is pretty basic. Just the essential elements and some basic climbing options. Paper towels are great for checking possible mite or parasite issues. I think that poster background makes the cage look much more exciting that it is. But hey for a few $$ it is a nice improvement.
