Escape size
So im wondering how small of a space can non-baby ball pythons fit through. Both of mine are just under a year one like 500 grams the other like 300. I built my own tank display and ended up with about a 1/2 gap between the top of the enclosure and the frame of my shelf system. Can ball pythons fit through a half inch?? I know in 6 months or so ill have no worries but for the size they are now can they squeeze through a half inch??

They can flatten out like a mouse. If their head can get through, that's a good gauge. Because just a bit bigger than their head and they get through. For example, if it is a long gap in a cage then if their head can fit, then the rest will follow. If it just a small circular gap, then it needs to be bigger than their head. But then you run the risk of it getting stuck.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Re: Escape size
My 2800g female got through a crack underneath the bathroom door not much bigger than what my big toe could fit under...
I'd try to cover that gap.

Anywhere their head can fit through, I would not trust...
My dumeril's boa who was almost 2 inches in diameter at her thickest point fit herself under my bathroom door, between the door and the floor- which was about 1.5 centimeters high. This was when she escaped her tub earlier this year. I only know she fit, because the door was still closed, and I found her in the bathroom...

or flatten out like a cobra? i wish BP's would. i think it would be really cool if they periscope up, flatten out into a hood - cobra style. (i know, off-topic. lol)
