Quick question regarding breeding
Hi all,
I own a CB Jan 14 male Ball python who weighs about 1000 grams. I've just bought a Lemonblast python who has just been born 7 weeks ago.
I understand that male pythons need to be about a year old and between 500-800 grams to breed. With this in mind I doubt I will be able to breed them because it will take a while for my Lemonblast to get of age and weight.
So my question is, if I wanted to breed my Lemonblast, will I have to purchase another male python? If so, when? (Presuming the new male is a baby).
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Quick question regarding breeding
Am I right that your normal is a male and your Lemonblast is a female? If so, you've got 2-3 years until the Lemonblast is ready to breed. When she's ready, you'll have all sorts of new ideas on what to pair her with.

Hi
My male is the Normal het pied. Lemonblast is the female.
So will I have to buy a new male in about 1.5 years time or so?

You could certainly work with your normal. I wouldn't recommend it though, as he's not bringing anything to the pairing of significance.

But surely when my Lemonblast is old enough, my normal BP is going to be about 1300 grams and about 4/5 years old.
That's way too old right?

The male needs to be AT LEAST ~500-800 grams. It seems like you believe they need to be exactly between 500 and 800 grams which is not the case. So no, your male will not bee too big/old.

Ok, thanks for your response.
From what I've heard, anything over 1000g and they become quite lazy with regards to breeding.
But I guess I'll see what happens
