Hey; does anyone else ever wake in the night, with the fear that their snake has escaped? It seems like every night, I get up for a glass of water, and I have to turn on the dining room light (room where the snakes are housed) to make sure everyone is in his/her cage.
I think this stems from the past, when 2 of my snakes had gotten out overnight; one of them even broke a vase of mine and startled the boyfriend and i awake! My cages are pretty escape roof now, but I still wake up sometimes with the fear that someone's out.
Am I just paranoid, or is anyone else with me on this one?

Yes.. I check every time I walk by his cage just to be sure. Never had one get out but don't want to have that happen with my first snake.

I used to be paranoid when I first had my snake. I didn't even know I was suppose to weigh down the top somehow to make it escape proof. Luckily, he didn't get out. I have a bunch of books stacked on the top of his cage. Kinda looks weird, but it works. And he's never gotten out..

Nah, I've gotten over my "new bp" paranoia I guess. The first few nights I couldnt sleep. I wasn't worried she'd escape. I was just worried about the temperatures. Since then, though, I've learned that you can't always expect to have the perfect 93/83 temps, and some short drops are fine. Guess I never worried about her escaping, since I have a really nice steel screen cage, which fits perfect to the tank, like a glove. So perfect, it's actually a small struggle to take it on and off. So I doubt she could get that open. But even so, I also have two cement blocks on top, lol. Unless she can lift 10 pounds of cinder blocks, and a tight tank top, she's not going anywhere unless I want her to.

Escape shouldn't be an option.

The key is not to only have an escape proof cage, but to also have an escape proof room.

KLG, we may not realize it *was* an option until the snake has already taken it.
