Butter and lesser
What is the difference between a butter and a lesser?

The name. They're practically interchangeable. I think the morph was "discovered" by two separate parties at around the same time, so it got two names.

Oh ok. So color and all are the same? I have a lesser pastel yellow belly and just purchased a butter. Waiting for tuesday delivery on her.

Re: Butter and lesser
They're considered different lines of the same morph but at some point one was worth more than the other and blah blah blah and it got all muddled so there isn't really a distinctive butter or lesser line anymore. It's pretty much just what you choose to call it. i call the ones with warmer more sepia toned colors butters and the more silvery ones lessers

something to watch for: alotta peeps care about lineage tho. for example, if u plan to breed your Lesser Pastel Yellowbelly to your new Butter, u won’t know which is which. which single gene baby is a Butter or Lesser, which combo is a Butter or Lesser or is the Super a ButterxButter, LesserxLesser or ButterxLesser?? the lineage will be muddled even further with each generation.
however, if u never breed them together, u won’t have to worry about that and can continue to track which is Lesser and which is Butter.

IMO that's one way to lose rep if u gonna breed. all morphs have variation in their colors and pattern.

Re: Butter and lesser
My original breeding plan was for a super lesser BEL. After researching and talking and what not, super lesser BEL, I have chances with bug eyed BELs. With the male I have being around 6 months old and the butter being a hatchling, on 3rd feeding, I will have enough time to get single gene lesser to breed with her in the future. Just to prove one way or the other if she is a butter or not due to bug eye.

Super Lesser, Super Butter, LesserxButter are all white BEL's that are prone to the bug eye issue. if u want an all white, blue eye BP - add a Mojave to your Lesser or Butter. u get the all white and blue eyes BP but without the eye issue.

Re: Butter and lesser
Dayum. Wont say I got robbed cause I brought this up before about BEL complex and I know which genes hit for BEL. Not back to drawing board but gives me time to look around. Better research, I know

Not planning on breeding, at least not for a while and I mostly meant that for deciding which to call which when it's unknown or could be either. Probably should have phrased that better

Re: Butter and lesser
Yes I do plan on breeding, but breeding just for the morphs that I want personally. And some I have because of impulse buys. All keep me calm and happy. At this point I have several to prove out before my personal program starts.
