    1939 newspaper

While doing my reptile room remodel, I found some interesting things in the ceiling when I tore it down. Most of which was old newspaper from 1939. This was very interesting to me, since my house is on record as being built in 1950... I have a feeling the city records are wrong. Not that it really matters. I did learn a few things, like world war 2 being called the european war before we entered it. Here were some highlights though if you find this stuff interesting.

    1939

i guess this is 1939 clickbait

I wonder if this is what us reptile owners would be using

    ad for a timeless movie

    Land speed record back then.

I thought gas mileage was a recent issue....

How far a dollar went back then is hard to fathom now. I saw some ads for brand new houses that were under 10k

Cigarette ad, another thing of the past

European war aka WWII related stuff. Apparently Hitler assured us he was no threat to the US.

and then my grand find.... an old hat! I'll have to clean it up and have some fun wearing it.

    really neat stuff!

i thought the oil heater was very expensive given the time, then i saw the $867 car and thought that was more reasonable.

Pretty cool find. I love the ad for the Wizard of Oz and the stuff about the war. Talk about a punctuation on the times? Being from the area originally, when I saw the ad for Crowley's I had a flash back. My siblings, my cousins, and I would go with my Mother, Aunt, and Grandmother to Crowley's every December, for a day of shopping and to have lunch with Santa Claus. They even gave out a white pearlescent coffee cup with green and red lettering that read, "I had lunch with Santa at Crowley's. Good times and thanks for the memories.

Awesome! If your not going to keep the paper, you might look up an old museum in the area for it, or look in the current classifieds for a collector of sorts.

This is fascinating. O: Welp, time to tear down your whole house to the base to find more of this stuff! LOL

Also very fascinating is that the house records might be wrong. Now we have to wonder what year the house was really built? Maybe originally even earlier than the 30's, and it was remodeled again in 1939. Who knows!

My house was built brand new when I was 10, very boring.

im going to give them to my mom so she can go through them. I don't know how much they would really be worth to someone, the paper is so deteriorated that i ripped just about every page I turned. But they wont be just going in the trash.

Eventually I will have to tear the other part out, so it will happen in time. Looking through zillow records, I am starting to see every house that looks like my base house (my house has had 2 separate additions) was built in 1938-1939. So i am pretty convinced my records are wrong.
