Fun clutch. Strange results. -[Pic heavy]-
So, My pairing was Lesser Enchi x "Genetic Blackback"
Here is the Dam. Purchased as a BlackBack years ago. I've posted about her on here in the past.

She was bred to a handsome little Lesser-Enchi

The resulting clutch was 8 eggs. These are hatchlings...
Two normals who are unremarkable.
Two lessers who show very nice dorsal blushing

Three lesser enchis,

One of which has a really cool dark spot on her back. So, obviously, her name is "Dot"

And then, This. A seemingly average PASTEL.

Zero pastel in this pairing. Not bred to any other males. Not bred last season. Where, the HELL did this come from?
Now, this isnt the first time she has given us a strange hatchling.
Two seasons ago, she was bred to a reduced pattern cinnamon, and she gave us this hatchling. If she doesn't look OD I don't know who does.
Where the HELL did this come from??

So, naturally I've asked around to many of my BP friends, and have gotten some interesting theories.
Some think the dam is actually OD, or Fire. I suppose I could get on board with a theory like this, as she is very light in color. I had always attributed this to her being a GBB.
To be honest though, she looks different from most GBBs I've come across in the past.
I would love to get some feedback from you all, and see what you think could be going on here.
Thanks

Re: Fun clutch. Strange results. -[Pic heavy]-
Sounds like retained sperm. What has she been bred to in the past and go back three years at least.
A friend of mine just had a clutch that was an 1.0 Emperor Pin X 0.1 Mojave. He got a Lesser Pastel, a BEL, a normal, and a GHI. When he checked with the breeder he had purchased the female from, she had not been bred last year, but had been bred to a GHI two seasons ago.
Just for that reason I keep track of what my females have been paired with in the past and when I purchased an adult female, I asked the breeder what she had been paired to previously so I knew what the possibilities are.
