    Banana genetics

I am just curious about banana genetics I just had a clutch hatch from my male maker bumblebee banana to my normal female we got 0.1 banana, 0.2 spiders, 1.0 normal, 1.0 pastel banana, 1.0 bumblebee banana. My question is if he is truly a male maker how did we get a male normal I know sometimes you can get female bananas from male makers but this is his first clutch and I'm just curious how the male maker genetics work

The way I've always interpreted it was that all Bananas had to be male (other then that really unlikely chance of getting a female) but not all males had to be bananas. Though I am really curious to see what others say as I have no practical experience breeding Bananas. Perhaps it's actually a female normal or it's a double sired clutch somehow?

There are exceptions, the male maker and female maker is not 100%. In my experience it's approx 95% accurate.

Not a dual sired clutch. He was the only male she saw this season. Definitely a male normal. The female banana I had double and triple checked since I couldn't believe it.

This is my way of breaking it down Barney-style as much as I can:
Male maker banana x normal= 9/10 bananas will be males, 9/10 non bananas will be female.

This means you have a small chance of producing the opposite sex of what the certain morph SHOULD be. I've produced two females from my male maker and a male non banana. As Dave said, the maker thing is about 90%-95% true.

    odd gods are fickle
but in theory male maker banana =95-99% male bananas
there is a chance of producing a non banana male and a slim chance of a banana female from a male maker banana
Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.
