Hides
I know of course that a BP should have 2 hides, one on either side of the tank, but Emrys has outgrown his other hide and I can't fit 2 of the same hides in his tub. I use the large hides from Reptile Basics. I mean I can fit 2 of them in there, but there's barely enough space between the two for his body, and I'd have to downsize his water dish as well. Any suggestions?

It what kind of setup do you have him in? Glass tank? might want to make sure its not too small for him. If he is longer than the length + the width, then its time to move up in size.

He's in a tub, and I've been told before that the tub he's in meets the dimension requirements of an adult BP, which is what he is.

Most people do not use any hides in tubs, as long as its not a clear tub and part of it is in a dark location (if you have it in a rack or somewhere covered). Other only use one hide. But I keep mine in a glass tank until I get a rack, so hopefully someone else will chime in with better insight.

We only use 1 hide per enclosure in our melamine cage systems. Our snakes seem fine that way and have no signs of stress.
Personally I think it has more to do with the type of and conditions in your enclosure. Tubs don't really require hides and don't really have a wide thermal gradient. Our melamine cages are precisely controlled with thermostats and radient heat panels. Now if you had a glass enclosure that had a 10 deg or so difference between the hot and cold side, you would want hides on both ends.
Ultimately however you need to look at the snake. If it is eating well and not stressed then it is OK with its environment.

Re: Hides
What size tub? If it's that cramped then he probably doesn't need hides. I use large reptile basics hides for my 1000g male and they fit perfectly in a 41qt tub. But if his tub were any smaller like 32qt I'd just take the hides out.

In a tub I only provide 1 hide they use it or they don't and if they do they will generally move them around as needed.

This. Usually I put the water bowl up front and the hide on the heat on feeding day. As time goes by the BP pushes the hide forward, off the heat.

Okay. I guess 1 hide is fine for him, I keep it mostly on the heat but he does push it a bit sometimes, his water is usually near the front and he's never refused a meal with me so I guess he's good, even though I took out his other hide. I just wanted some opinions.
