Lesser genetics

Quick question about phenotype. I have a super pastel lesser male. I am hoping to produce BEL ball pythons in a few years but my question has to do with his super pastel gene. Obviously everything he produces will carry that pastel gene (in its heterozygous form) so if I was to breed him and produce a female containing lesser, would I still be able to get BEL?

I know that all of his babies will have pastel in them, but would a BEL pastel, still just be an all white snake with blue eyes? I'm scratching my head on this one.

Edit- I realize my wording on this question is a bit strange so for the sake of simplicity....
Does a super lesser (BEL) pastel, still look like a BEL?

Yeah it will be all white still. Could look different under a blacklight but you can still get that bel you like

It varies how much the pastel will show. It will show sometimes on a normally full white bel as a yellow dorsal stripe. It gets confusing because some of the bels have some yellow dorsal striping. For example I have a lesser X mojave possible pastel. She is totally white with a faint yellow dorsal. I will not know for sure if she is pastel or not till she is bred. My bet is that she is pastel since most mojave x lesser are pretty white.

I get nothing special under black light unlike my super mojave spider who I can really tell is spider when the blacklight comes out.

Yes to pretty much all of your questions. Your male has a 50% chance at passing the Lesser gene along to any offspring he sires. Even with the Pastel gene in there, the BELs would still basically be white snakes.

In a side note, there are some known issues with Lesser x Lesser pairings. To end up with BELs, it's typically a better idea to do Lesser x Mojave or something along those lines. To learn about some various morph issues, here's a good link for you: http://www.owalreptiles.com/issues.php.

Thank you guys so much! I was hopeful that the 'super lesser' would at least greatly overpower anything else if not completely. Much more confident with my breeding intentions now! Also I should note that I want a BEL as a pet only. I see that the super lessers can have 'bug eyes.' I'll be sure to do more reading on that deformity. However I would never knowingly pass on any bad traits like that so I'll be sure to do more reading. If all else fails I can always invest in a Mojave or something else later in life! Thanks guys!

If you breed your super pastel lesser to another one of the BEL producing genes you should be able to identify if the babies carry the pastel gene. I just produced a BEL GHI and a BEL GHI pastel and the BEL GHI pastel has a orangeish stripe down his back. Its really WICKED looking at him under a black light. The breeding to produce them was pastave ghi x lesser.In my personal opinion the mojave x lesser breeding produces the more cleaner looking BEL.

i would highly recommend getting a Mojave or Mojave combo to pair with your Super Pastel Lesser. you could still get a BEL without the issues. you will also diversify and get another gene to work with.

Yep. I have a pastel ivory and she's completely white except for two grey stripes by her eyes. She's even cleaner than a regular non-pastel ivory.
