    Getting another ball python/reptile convention...

Hello! So I'm new on here and I have a few questions, there's a reptile convention coming to my town in September and I would like to get another ball python, the one I have now is only 8 months and I've had him for 4.. Is that too soon to be thinking about buying another one or should I just go for it?

Also, if I do buy another ball python at this convention is there anything I should look for, like pros and cons of reptile conventions?

Thank you and have a great day/night

I've only been into BP's for about 8 months, but I can tell you this....

They are addicting. LOL. If you have adequate housing for another snake, and are able to provide good husbandry, regular care and feeding, and vet assistance if/when needed for two snakes, then go for it. If there is any doubt, wait. Something to keep in mind, anytime you get a new snake, or bring another snake into your home, you'll want to keep it away from your other snakes for a couple of months. This is to ensure you're not bringing in anything such as mites or disease that could spread to your own snakes.

As for what to look for... You can ask around, maybe ask on here about the shows in your area. Personally, I tried to talk to as many of the vendors as I could at my first few shows (and still do). I was pretty surprised at how quickly I was able to tell the good ones from the bad ones. In my experience, if someone is trying to push you into buying a snake, maybe that's not the best person to buy from. The guy I have come to like and respect the most was one who, in the beginning, almost came across as a little rude. He didn't care if I bought a snake from him or not. I come to find out, he is a reputable breeder, and takes good care of his animals. He sells pretty good quality, and wants his animals to go to good homes, not just someone who wants to impress their friends and the resale on craigslist. So, my advice, talk to as many vendors as much as you can, and trust your gut.

Sometimes the conventions and expos will have a web site or Facebook page with a list of vendors. Research them before you go so you know who to avoid - not all vendors are created equal.

I would also read this before going:

As for the convention itself, take cash, and don't ask to hold any critter you're not intent on buying.
