How to keep humidity high using paper towels?

OK, so I'm starting to win the battle against my snake mites and have all my snakes on paper towels. I really like the paper towels, but I had one snake look very lethargic, I thought it was mostly from the mites. He was looking so bad the last few days and has not eaten in awhile (a young snake) I was really scared he was going to die so I put a few paper towels in the tub that were sprayed with water to bump up the humidity. After just a day or so that snake looks totally different, he is active and actually ate a mouse last night! Looks like it's a major humidity issue. So I sprayed down all my other ball pythons on paper towels. Is that typical when using paper towels that you spray them down with water every so often to keep the humidity bumped up? It's very dry here and at one point I had a humidifier going set at 60% but it was too much, I was going through about five gallons of water every other day... Not sure how to keep the humidity up in the tubs when using just paper towels, I supposed I could just spray them down once or twice a day?

i use a rack which helps hold in humidity, and paper towels as a substrate, but besides when one of my snakes is about to shed i dont spray. my humidity hovers around mid 50's - 60 %. If humidity is an issue for you maybe block some of the air flow holes in your tubs or make sure the holes are near the middle or bottom of the tub. good luck!
