    Re: PetSmart Rescue

A question please... I realize that the pet stores are not the preferred source for any pets, but, are they obligated to tell you the lineage (captive bred / wild born??) - not correct term? I just brought home a Regular Ball from PS and he/she seems very friendly and tame and otherwise in good shape. I would like to offer him a small mouse to check to see if there are any eating issues. I plan on using a feeding box and figure if he eats it it will answer the "finicky eater" question. It does look like he could use a good meal. Suggestions please. Thanks

No. Petstores are not obligated to tell you blood lines/lineage...some pet stores still get farmed babies, some get from breeders who produce in the US. Just depends on their source. That is why most encourage others to buy from a known source, not a pet store. Pet stores are big unknowns.

Anyone else see a trend here? Just a guess, but it might be an indicator that PetSmart isn't a good place to source healthy ball pythons.

Actually, yes you can. In fact, that's the only way the puppy mill of ball pythons will stop selling these sick animals.

i feel the pain here, i was in petsmart yesterday and i seen a BP that was so emaciated it was sickening. i too asked if they would sell the animal at a lower price (was 119 bucks) and they said no, said they would have there vet look at it.. well i made my mind up right then that i will not buy another product from petsmart ever again. i read all the comments about how not to buy animals from big chain stores and such so i knew i would never buy a healthy animal from but seeing him as thin as he was was just horrible.

If you go into a pet store and see an animal is clearly in bad health and not being cared for properly, instead of buying it and putting another animal in its place couldnt you file a complaint with the humane society or something along those lines for animal abuse. Beyond the point that they are keeping animals in poor housing conditions they also try and pass them off as healthy animals and when concerns are brought to light they pass the problems off as just very minor issues that dont need real attention. I dont even go into petsmart or petco anymore because i never found a location that actually housed their animals in appropriate enclosure and werent filled with waste.
