    Blacklight?

I was curious as to whether a blacklight bar, say 24" would be appropriate for a BP aquarium setup. I had seen something I had assumed was a blacklight on a nocturnal exhibit not too long ago, and it gave me an idea. It would not be functional purposes, but only for aesthetics. Would this be OK? Would the BP even see it (not being visible for the snake would be ideal)? Would it produce too much heat? Would it need to be on a daytime/nighttime cycle?

Some people use UV tubes to provide D3 to their snakes. I have not seen a black light used before unless it is briefly to determine BEL patterns though xx

    Re: Blacklight?

I no longer do but ive used blacklights for years for herps and I know a couple breeders that uses blacklight for their display snakes. From my experience, what I've read, and those breeders information bps can't see blacklight. Some companies even sell reptile night black light bulbs. It doesn't give off anything harmful to your snake and like I said is not visible like reds and blues. While true that some people use UV florescent lights for D3 it really isn't beneficial IMO bc they hide most of the time so exposure would be minimum and you can't run the tubes at night bc it is white light. Lighting is not really needed, I use lights on dimmers in my PVC cages to get a day/night cycle bc of the dark room there in but it isn't necessary but I keep them real dim are on a timer to shut off at night. You could run any night bulb (red, blue, black) 24/7 bc the snake can not see it, I will say that they do come in handy when feeding in a dark room.
