Wait you're using fir for a ball python? Fir last I knew was part of the conifer family with pine. I'd advise against fir because it stands no chance at holding humidity. I ran my tanks before the racks about 40% and left in a sphagnum moss box for added humidity during sheds. I'd switch to aspen and I know a lot of other herpers use Kraft indented paper, newspaper, eco earth etc. Eco earth will hold your humidity very well with an occasional mist.
