    Need help with humidity control.

So here's the deal, I'm having trouble keeping the humidity levels in my tank proper, it's an open cage top so everything just escapes, I can't afford a new tank at the moment and I'm sick of misting 10 times a day, I'm using fir substrate with a small heat cable under her hide, and a heat lamp above that(warm side) with her water bowl on the cold side, the heat levels are perfect and I have no problems with that, but if I don't mist her tank every couple of hours, the humidity drops to about 30, I tried laying a damp towel over the top but this brings the humidity up in the 70s and quickly dries up over night, I thought maybe plastic wrap might work ( with ventilation obviously) but wanted some advice before I go all mcguyver on the terrarium. Any suggestions?

I was told that you mist once to bring the humidity to 60-70 then can let it drop during the day to 40/50, then mist the next day and so on... do you have a water bowl in the tank? Have you tried covering the lid with plastic wrap, (still allow air flow though. )

Wait you're using fir for a ball python? Fir last I knew was part of the conifer family with pine. I'd advise against fir because it stands no chance at holding humidity. I ran my tanks before the racks about 40% and left in a sphagnum moss box for added humidity during sheds. I'd switch to aspen and I know a lot of other herpers use Kraft indented paper, newspaper, eco earth etc. Eco earth will hold your humidity very well with an occasional mist.

You can tape up the top of your tank with either duct tape or gorilla tape but put some aluminum foil underneath it and cut out a hole for your heat lamp and that should keep in the humidity very well and should significantly reduce the times you have to mist
