real tree branches?
would it be a problem to put real tree branches in a tank, i was thinking about making decorations my self as i am a big diyer, so what are the draw backs from putting real branches and stuff in there?
this may be a stupid question as i know the snakes live out in the wild and they seem to do fine there, just curious because i dont see many with the real stuff in there...
thanks,
mike

Re: real tree branches?
It's perfectly fine. Avoid pine and other evergreens. If you have any concern about bugs you can either let them air dry for a few weeks or bake them on a low heat in the oven, but it's optional - there's no chance of bringing in snake mites or anything like that.

Snake mites aren't native to North America and the nymphs only have a window of a few days to find a reptile host, so you'd have to gather material somewhere that an infested escapee snake has very recently rested. Not impossible I guess (particularly in Florida!), but chances are slim, Slim.

Re: real tree branches?
IMO you should sterilizate anything you put into a reptile enclosure whether it is bought in a store or from outside. Mites are not the only thing you need to worry about!!!!!
