Female slugging out or partially slugging out are not always human error (it can be) but not always.
Not all females breed, not all females ovulate, not all females lay viable clutched, not all eggs hatch.
I have had females slugging out or partially slugging out lay 9, 11 healthy eggs the following season, just like I have had a female never laying healthy eggs.
All you can do is try again.
