    Depends on the pathogen. As you noted, salmonella can be picked up by both humans and reptiles. Same goes for worms and ticks, though snake mites don't typically feed on mammals.

    The bacteria and virii that cause most RI's also usually don't cross the reptile/mammal barrier. Same goes for crypto; the particular strain that affects reptiles is different than the one that affects people.

    As always wash your hands after handling your snakes. Hand sanitizer is also your friend.
