How long will rats last in the freezer?

I am going to be getting 100+ rats off someone with the freezer for £70 (I know what a bargain lol)..

At the moment I've only got 3 snakes, 2 of which only eat rats and I know I wont need to buy rats for a long time if I buy these.. but I'm just wondering how long will they last as I don't want to buy them and throw loads away within a few months

    Thanks for any help

You can send some to me 😉 and I've heard somewhere that they last for 8 months to a year if vacuum sealed. Im not sure how accurate that is and I usually get them 10 at a time so I don't have experience

From 3-4 months in a zip-lock freezer bag, up to a year if vacuum-sealed.

Haha i would but im in the uk.

So there will be no point getting them all?
I'm only interested in the rat fluffs(there is 65) and possibly the mice aswell(there's about 20) so I might just get them and save abit of money but if I have to get them all I will just sell the excess.

I would assume they would smell freezer burned when you thawed them out like anything else.

All depends on the seal they have. In the end... as long as they don't smell bad when thawed or have crystals forming before thawing them... You're golden!

Get the killer deal on the rats. Use that to justify getting more snakes

I've pulled whole prey items out of the freezer for my non snake critters and cuts of meat for the family upwards of 2 years without any taste issue for us and refusals from the pets.

Vacuum sealer + oxygen absorber + double wrapped

I'm pretty sure the guide to the vacuum sealer I bought had whole fish lasting 2 years in the freezer. That's probably closest to whole rats they have info on.

Maybe you could pick up a cheap vacuum sealer and repack the big ones. Or sell them off.

I purchased ft rats from big cheese and they were vaccumed packed in trays of 15 small rats. I only open one tray and feed weekly, and after 15 weeks the rats are fine, my mice comein trays of 40, and they are still fine.

they are good as long as there isnt any freezer burn or ice forming on them. on average 3-6 months in a ziplock or 8-12 months vacuum sealed
