Can someone please school me on Salmonella-Kids and BP's? I have one child under 5

I plan to handle my snakes with hand sanitizer but I'm just wanting some more information. I told a friend I was going to breed and he brought up the fact my son is 2 and maybe I should wait until he's 5.

From my experience with raising ball pythons I have found that if their cage lining stays clean and you wash your hands after handling them, there should be no problem . Just because you have a 2 year old doesn't mean they have to be handling your ball pythons. Therefor they should be fine.

Does your friend also recommend on waiting until your son is 5 to bring raw chicken into the house? I imagine household cleaners are much more dangerous... do you leave these laying around in reach of your 2 year old?

Unless you plan on letting your son touch the ball pythons and then immediately stick his hands into his mouth, he'll be fine. Get your snakes

There's no reason to not have reptiles when you have small children. Washing hands is a routine thing for kids, whether you have reptiles, cook raw meats in the kitchen, have a cat, go outside, pet the family dog... you get the picture.

Don't let the kid use the python as a teething ring. You'll do just fine.
