    How to take temps

    Hello

So my first ball python is in my possession.
I have a temp taker gun and have been using it the last couple days severall times a day to monitor the temperature of the hot spot.

I know that she needs at least a week to settle down, she is already coiled up in her hot hide.

I want to take the temps still a couple times a day to make sure the temps are fine since in the hide what she has between her and the heat mat is a really fine cover of aspen and the plastic of the rub. (i have a thermostast, max temp to 90F)

I can take the temp without disturbing the hide but i know that she will hear me open the rub and see me move trough the hide hole. Can i do that or will that stress her out?

I ask because i dont want to stress her out but if im not moving her from her hide then its not that bad right?

    Re: How to take temps

Bad temps are going to cause more stress then you opening a tub. I wouldn't check it every 10 minutes but a couple times a day won't hurt. Also you should be checking the temps under the aspen and check a few spots on the uth bc sometimes temp can vary from the middle to the edges. Checking the top of the aspen is good to. I wouldn't let the temp under the substrate go above 93 IMO. If you have your thermostat probe between the tub and heat mat you may need to raise the temp on the thermostat a little bc you will lose some temp going through the tub.
