Exclamation Spotted Python Can't stick tongue out?

I just got a baby spotted python today and when I was handling it as I put it into its tub I noticed it can't stick it's tongue out fully. It can only stick out the two split sections barely. I thought maybe it could be lethargic but I handled for about 10 min and it was curious and inquisitive. The seller says it might be because of stress. Anyone ever heard of something like this? Can't find anything online.

Not sure how serious it could be. I suppose you either keep an eye on him or go to a vet. I'll say just let him settle in and relax and keep an eye on him see if he eat, drinks etc. Maybe he'll just stop doing it after a while but if it persist or he seems under stress call a vet and see what they say you should do. Best of luck to you and the little guy.

I remember seeing a similar post about a year ago. I think it may have been a BP though. I'm not sure what became of the situation .

    You might try search.

I just fed it now and I'm sure it drinks because I've had it for a week and it doesn't seem dehydrated. Right after it ate I noticed it could flick it out all the way and now it's back to only the two split ends.

It sounds to me like your snake is *able* to stick its whole tongue out, but for some reason just doesn't most of the time. If it was me, I'd probably consider it a silly snake thing.

Yeah prognathodon pretty much answered it being a "silly snake thing" just wanna reply to show i didn't disappear or whatever. If he's eating, drinking being a snake it's probably a non issue.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry. I've had a few snakes just kinda do the same thing for a while, but after a bit all was normal. I've seen a boa as well do something similar, but only one side of the "fork" would come out.

    Snakes are weird.
