    "Softchips" substrate

Tonight I made my first attempt to feeding Junior F/T. I've had him about a month now and he's been eating live. I've been wanting to try F/T but just haven't yet (my own fault). So I had one that I got from the pet store last week in the freezer and waiting. I had my wife to get it out of the freezer and put it on the counter a couple of hours before I got home from work. I then put it in a bag and done the hot water in sink thawing deal. Refilled the sink once with more hot water then got my wife's long tongs out of the drawer (sshhh, don't tell her). Walked over to Junior's tank and now it's the moment of truth. Thinking about all the stories about people's BP's stubbern about taking F/T. I'm already thinking about what kind of mouse dance to do. I raise the lid. I see he's in the cool side....I reach in there and slowly lower him down in the tank....the mouse is lowering down and just as he touches the floor...WHAM, Junior tags him and it startles me and I drop the mouse. Then Junor pulls him into the hide and does his thing. Man, what a releif...this is great!!!

yeah i kinda still jump,or at least blink when she strikes........well......now i think she knows the pinie rat is dead so she just crawls up to it and and opens her mouth (kinda boring if you ask me), same thing with the new baby,i guess its becuase she has been fed f/t since the day she was born so feedings around here are pretty boring but hey, at least they eat !

Congrats! It's great when they go easy for you like that. I've been startled into dropping hemostats by a striking snake when I first started with f/t, but only once I think. I felt like such a goober when I did it, like "that's what you were hoping for, wasn't it?".
